What is a 'podcast'?
If you don't know what a podcast is, you should! A number of school districts are using podcasting as part of their public relations and curriculum:

Simply put, a podcast is a recorded audio or video show that listeners download from the internet and listen to whenever they want.

What makes podcasting different from regular audio and video you find on the internet is the ability to subscribe to podcasts, much like how you would subscribe to a magazine. By subscribing, your computer will automatically download the new episodes of the podcast as soon as they are released.

How do I 'subscribe'?
Subscribing is easy. First, you'll need to download and install a 'podcatcher' software, like Apple's iTunes.

Visit www.apple.com/itunes/download to download the latest version of iTunes.

Once you've installed iTunes, click on the 'Advanced' area in the menu and go to 'Subscribe to podcast.'

Next, copy the following address (our podcast 'feed'):

http://phoenix2007.libsyn.org/rss

...and paste it into the text box in iTunes:

That's it! Whenever iTunes is open and connected to the internet it will check for new episodes of any podcasts you have subscribed to.

Alternatively, you can receive email notification when a new episode is released:

But...I don't have an iPod!
You don't need an iPod to listen to or watch podcasts. You don't even need an MP3 player or any special portable media device. Podcasts are regular audio and video files that can be played in Windows Media Player, iTunes, or other media-player software on Macs and PCs.
